By the end of this quiz, you'll be an expert in hand washing and be able to keep yourself and those around you healthy and safe. So, let's get started!
1. What is the proper way to wash your hands?
The proper way to wash your hands is to wet your hands with clean, running water and apply soap. Rub your hands together to lather the soap and scrub all surfaces of your hands, including the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. Continue scrubbing for at least 20 seconds, then rinse your hands thoroughly with clean, running water and dry them with a clean towel or air dryer.
2. When should I wash my hands? You should wash your hands frequently throughout the day, especially before and after eating, after using the bathroom, after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, and after touching surfaces that may be contaminated with germs, such as doorknobs, handles, or shared equipment. It's also important to wash your hands before and after caring for someone who is sick or treating a wound.
3. What if I don't have access to soap and water? If you don't have access to soap and water, you can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Apply enough sanitizer to cover all surfaces of your hands and rub your hands together until they feel dry. However, hand sanitizer is not as effective as washing your hands with soap and water, especially if your hands are visibly dirty or greasy.
